Mangaluru, July 31, 2021: Joachim Fedrick D’Souza who is popularly known as J F D’Souza, is a known name in the Konkani literary circles of Mangaluru.
This former officer who served the Forest Department for over three decades and retired as Superintendent, is a passionate writer better known for his Konkani literary works for children. His maiden book, Bhangarche Masli (Golden Fish) won him laurels in 2004 as he won the Konkani Sahithya Academy Award in Children’s Literature Category. So far he has authored 14 children’s books including "Robinson Crusoe" which was released last December.
After his retirement in 2000, he has continued to pursue writing as his hobby and hence has written numerous general articles, columns and reviews and is also popular for his Letters to Editor. In fact J F D’Souza is proud of the fact that till date he has written more than 6000 letters to the “letters to the editor” column in various English and Kannada dailies. His 90 Tulu poems have been telecast in Namma Kudla Channel’s “ Aithorod-du Aithora” Programme.
As enthusiastic as ever even at the age of 79, J F D’Souza also wrote columns for Konkani periodicals. He has also written a book on how to lead a happy life named ‘Velakalachem Sutram’ and a comic book, ‘Hassos Haso’. He is a recipient of the Karnataka Konkani Sahithya Academy Honorary Award, Konkani Kutam, Bahrain Award among various awards. He is also on the editorial board of “Milarche Milan” Church Magazine for nearly 14 years and further has served as an editor for 4 years and presently is serving as the honorary editor.
