Mobile exhibition on Swami Vivekananda chugs into Mangalore

Mangalore, Aug 5: Vivek Express, an exhibition within a train, displaying items depicting the life and philosophy of Swami Vivekananda, chugged into Mangalore Central Railway Station on Aug 5 Friday. The exhibition is being held in commemoration of the 150th birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda. 


The portrait of Swami Vivekananda was garlanded to inaugurate the Vivek Express in Mangalore.

K. C. Naik of KCCI and a member of the Vivek Express Reception Committee, delivered the welcome address.


Speaking on the occasion, S. K. Raina, the divisional railway manager, Palakkad, said that the train exhibition comprising 2 compartments has already visited 79 stations and expects to visit 44 more stations across 8 states. Stating that Railway Minister Mamatha Banerjee flagged off the exhibition, he said that the public in Mangalore can view the exhibition from Aug 7 – Aug 10. 


Revealing further details about the exhibition, he said that 6 lakh people have visited the exhibition so far, adding that this gives an opportunity to the people of Mangalore to view an illustration of the life, works, and philosophy of Swami Vivekananda. 


Speaking on the occasion, Swami Jitakamanandaji, the president of Ramakrishna Mutt, said that the exhibition has been jointly organized by the Ramakrishna Mutt and the railway department. 


Vivek Express will be at Mangalore Central Station for 3 days. Books and photographs related to Swami Vivekananda will also be exhibited. 


Shri Alok Mohan, the inspector general of police; Shri T. C. Shivashankara Moorthy, the vice chanceller of Mangalore University; Prabhulinga Kavalakatti, the assistant commissioner, K.C. Naik, Prabhakar Bhat and many other dignitaries were also present.
