Mangaluru, May 21, 2026: MLA Vedavyas Kamath has said that the long-standing demand of the Mangaluru Bar Association to establish a High Court circuit bench in Mangaluru is completely justified and necessary to ensure speedy justice for the people of the coastal region.
He said that he firmly supports the demand on behalf of the people of Mangaluru and there is no compromise on the issue.
Kamath stated that the movement has remained non-political from the beginning and that he has stood with the Bar Association at every stage of the struggle. He said that memorandums had been submitted to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Law Minister H. K. Patil in the presence of elected representatives and leaders from all political parties in the district. Apart from this, he said he had personally raised the issue with the government several times, including during the Assembly session.
He welcomed the positive response shown by the Chief Minister towards the demand. However, he said it was unacceptable that some people were now demanding that the circuit bench be established in another district instead of Mangaluru.
Kamath pointed out that Mangaluru has excellent transport connectivity through road, rail and air, making it an ideal location for the High Court circuit bench. He added that the premises of the old Deputy Commissioner’s office are suitable in all respects and already possess the necessary infrastructure for the establishment of the bench.
He further said that the Speaker, MPs, MLCs, leaders of all political parties, senior citizens and prominent personalities must unite and strongly place the demand before the government in one voice.
Congratulating the Mangaluru Bar Association for its continuous struggle, patience and restraint, Kamath reiterated that establishing the High Court circuit bench in Mangaluru remains their firm stand and assured his full support for the cause in the future as well.
