Bantwal, Oct 5, 2025: The police have invoked the Karnataka Control of Organised Crimes Act (KCOCA) against all accused in the murder of Abdul Rehman of Kolatamajalu and the assault on Khalandar Shafi at Irakodi in Kurniyal village, Bantwal taluk, on May 27.

The Bantwal Rural Police had earlier arrested 13 persons — Deepak, Chintan, Prithviraj Jogi, Sumit B Acharya, V Raviraj Moulya, Abhin Rai, Tejaksha, Ravisanjay G S of Sringeri, Shivaprasad Thumbe, Pradeep, Shahith alias Sahith, Sachin alias Satchu Rottigudde, and Ranjith — who were produced before court and remanded to judicial custody. Most of them were taken into police custody earlier for interrogation.
One accused, Bharathraj alias Bharath Kumdelu (29), remains absconding. Police said the group has a history of involvement in serious offences including murder, attempt to murder, and delivering provocative speeches, thereby disturbing social harmony and fuelling communal tension.
With the approval of the Inspector General of Police, Western Range, a case has now been registered under KCOCA and further investigation is in progress.
