Ernakulam, Jul 6, 2026: The timely intervention of two nurses helped save the life of a 43-year-old man who suffered a heart attack while caught in a traffic jam in Kerala’s Ernakulam district.

Anjali Baiju, a staff nurse at LF Hospital in Angamaly, and Ardra Raj, a nursing student in Bengaluru, got off a KSRTC bus and rushed to the man’s aid after noticing a commotion on the roadside. They immediately began cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), helping stabilise him before he reached the hospital.

The incident occurred on July 2 on MC Road near Kalady Bridge. The victim, Sinoj, who runs a lottery shop at Thannipuzha near Okkal, developed severe chest pain while driving himself to a hospital. As traffic came to a standstill, he collapsed inside his car.

The two nurses continued administering CPR inside the vehicle until Sinoj reached a hospital in Angamaly. Doctors said he had regained signs of recovery by the time he arrived.

Medical examination later revealed a blocked coronary artery, following which Sinoj underwent emergency angioplasty. He is expected to be shifted to a higher medical centre for further treatment.

The rescue was also made possible by local residents. A passerby took over the wheel after learning that Sinoj was suffering from chest pain and was on his way to the hospital, while others helped move the vehicle through the traffic and arranged an ambulance.

The swift response of the two nurses, along with the assistance of bystanders, has drawn widespread appreciation, with many crediting their quick action for saving the man’s life.
