Puttur: MESCOM lineman swims across flooded stream to restore power

Puttur, Aug 20, 2026: A MESCOM lineman has won widespread praise after swimming across a swollen stream to repair a snapped power line and restore electricity supply to several villages in Dakshina Kannada district.

The incident occurred at Dhoomadka in Bettampady village of Puttur taluk, where a power line had snapped and fallen across the overflowing Seere Hole stream, disrupting electricity supply to nearby areas.

Upon receiving information about the outage, Nawaz, a lineman attached to the Bettampady MESCOM sub-division, rushed to the spot. With the stream in spate due to heavy rains, he swam across the flowing waters to reach the damaged section and successfully reconnected the power line.

A video of Nawaz carrying out the repair work under challenging conditions has gone viral on social media, drawing appreciation from the public as well as senior MESCOM officials for his dedication and commitment to duty.
