Mangalore, September 9: The DK Zilla Panchayat Contractors’ Association staged a protest in front of the Zilla Panchayat office on the morning of September 9.

 

 

 

Claiming to have completed most of the projects under the MP Fund, Local Area Development Fund, MLC Local Area Development Fund, Panchayat Member Grants, water supply schemes, heads of account 5054 and 3054, 12th Finance Commission, natural calamity, and other projects, they said that they have not yet been paid for projected completed in 2 years.

They alleged that the concerned authorities are delaying payments in spite of having received the clearance bill. 

The workers’ have approached the concerned authorities to request payment and have also requested help from the local leaders. They said that the authorities have given press statements about the substandard quality of their work and added that they are not forcing authorities to pay for poor quality. Several workers had borrowed money to implement the projects, but are now finding it difficult to repay the debts because they have not yet been paid, they said.

Owing to illegal transportation of sand from Mangalore to Kerala, contractors are finding it difficult to obtain sand for government work, said the protestors and demanded licenses to facilitate contractors to get the required quantity of sand for their projects. 

 
The association refrained from working throughout the day and protested peacefully against the delay in payments due to them. Simultaneously, they urged the authorities concerned to consider the issue.

 

Vishwanatha Shetty, President of the Zilla Panchayat Contractors Association, Mahabala Shetty, Kadur, Anand and Ibrahim Manchi were present on the occasion.
