New Delhi, Jun 6, 2026: India’s newest cricket sensation is taking the next giant leap.

Just weeks after setting the IPL alight, 15-year-old batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been named in India’s T20 squad, putting him on course to become the youngest player ever to represent the Indian men’s team.

The left-handed opener from Bihar was understood to be in line for selection for India’s upcoming white-ball assignments, which include two T20Is in Ireland followed by a five-match series in England.

If handed a debut, 15-year-old Sooryavanshi would surpass Sachin Tendulkar, who made his international debut at 16 years and 205 days in 1989.

An IPL Season For The Ages

Few players have forced their way into national contention as emphatically as Sooryavanshi did this season.

The Rajasthan Royals opener finished IPL 2026 as the tournament’s leading run-scorer, amassing a staggering 776 runs in just 16 matches. His campaign included a century, five half-centuries and a remarkable strike rate of 237.30.

He also rewrote the record books by smashing 72 sixes, the most by any player in a single T20 tournament.

Those numbers helped him claim the Orange Cap, the Most Valuable Player award and the Emerging Player of the Season honour, despite Rajasthan narrowly missing out on a place in the final.

Rapid Rise Continues

Sooryavanshi’s IPL exploits came only months after he starred in the Under-19 World Cup, where he was named Player of the Tournament.

His rise has been so rapid that selectors have fast-tracked him into the senior setup.

The teenager has also been included among the 30 probables for India’s squad for the Asian Games later this year in Japan.
