Udupi, Jun 10, 2026: A dispute over giving way to a vehicle in the parking area of the Udupi Sri Krishna Math on Tuesday night escalated into a physical altercation between tourists from another state and a local resident, with both sides filing complaints with the police.
According to reports, the incident occurred when Supreeth, a resident of Korangrapady, was driving his car and got into an argument with a group of tourists from Hyderabad over allowing passage to another vehicle. The tourists alleged that Supreeth attempted to ram his car into them, following which the verbal altercation intensified and turned into a scuffle.
The tourists further alleged that Supreeth assaulted them using a stick kept inside his car. Pawan, a tourist from Hyderabad who sustained injuries in the incident, lodged a complaint at the Udupi Town Police Station.
In a counter-complaint, Supreeth alleged that the tourists initiated the confrontation after he asked them to drive slowly. He claimed that the tourists damaged the windshield of his car. He further stated that while he was travelling in the car with his wife, the tourists attacked him using a chair and a photo stand, causing injuries to his mouth and resulting in bleeding.
The tourists, who had arrived in Udupi from Andhra Pradesh along with women and children, were reportedly involved in the altercation in the parking area. Local residents intervened and brought the situation under control before it escalated further.
Videos of the incident, recorded on mobile phones, have surfaced and are being examined by the police. Complaints have been registered by both parties at the Udupi Town Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
