Bengaluru hotels hike food prices by 10-15% amid rising input costs

Mangalore Today News Network

Bengaluru, Nov 5, 2026: Hotels across Bengaluru have increased the prices of several food items by 10-15%, citing rising costs of milk, rice and other essential raw materials. Tea and coffee have become costlier, while popular breakfast items such as idli and dosa have also seen price hikes.

Hoteliers said the steady rise in input costs had left them with little option but to pass on part of the additional burden to customers.

"Over the past month, rice prices have increased from Rs 65 per kg to as much as Rs 95. Pulse prices have also gone up, while higher milk and curd prices have added to the burden. Several restaurants have already increased menu prices by 10-15%," said PC Rao of the Bruhat Bengaluru Hoteliers Association (BBHA).

Hoteliers said the price revision was necessary to prevent further losses.

"When the prices of all raw materials increase, we are forced to revise menu rates. Since the unrest in the Middle East began, there have been repeated price increases. We try to keep the hikes to a minimum each time. However, rice and milk are essential ingredients used extensively in our kitchens, and we cannot continue absorbing the additional costs," said Mahesh K, a hotelier from North Bengaluru.

Some establishments, however, have restricted the increase to tea and coffee to minimise the impact on customers.

"We have to consider our customers as well as the interests of the hotel industry. Therefore, we have increased only tea and coffee prices for now. We are trying to minimise the burden on consumers and will review the situation over the next few days," said Krishna Raj, a hotelier from Central Bengaluru.

A few hoteliers are also waiting for clarity from the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) on curd prices before deciding on further increases.

"So far, we have revised only tea and coffee prices. We are awaiting clarity on the final price of curd and whether the government will intervene to regulate rice prices. Our decision on increasing the prices of other food items will depend on these factors," said Santhosh M, a hotelier from North Bengaluru.

Across Bengaluru, tea and coffee prices have increased by an average of Rs 3-5. The hikes in other menu items vary from hotel to hotel. For instance, a dosa that earlier cost around Rs 100 is now priced between Rs 110 and Rs 115.
