Mangaluru, Nov 4, 2026: A woman has allegedly been cheated of Rs 1.30 lakh by a fraudster posing as an Amazon customer care representative. A case has been registered at the CEN Police Station in this connection.

According to the complaint, the woman had ordered a ceiling fan through the Amazon app on October 21 and paid Rs 7,903 using her husband’s Google Pay account.

However, she later discovered that the order had been cancelled, but the amount paid was not refunded. She subsequently searched for the Amazon customer care helpline number on Google on October 31 and called the number she found.

Although the call was initially disconnected, she later received a return call from the same number. The caller introduced himself as an Amazon customer care executive and informed her that her order had been cancelled. He told her that she needed to create a Google Pay ID to receive the refund.

Following his instructions, Rs 80,000 was allegedly transferred from her account to the fraudster’s account without her knowledge. Subsequently, another Rs 50,000 was transferred through IMPS.

The complainant alleged that the unidentified fraudster cheated her of a total of Rs 1.30 lakh on the pretext of processing a refund for the cancelled order. Police have registered a case and are investigating.
