Gokarna, Nov 4, 2026: Three employees of a Bengaluru-based IT company died after being swept away by strong waves at Dubbansashi beach in Gokarna, Uttara Kannada district.
The body of the third victim, Vishwesh, 24, who went missing on Sunday, was recovered on Monday, around one kilometre from the spot where he was swept into the sea.
The bodies of the other two victims, Shobha Das, 22, and Mohammed Akram, the team’s leader, were recovered on Sunday.
The five colleagues were part of a group of 16 employees of Aloria Ecospace, a Bengaluru-based company located in Bellandur. They had travelled to Gokarna for a holiday and arrived on Saturday evening before checking into a resort near the beach.
The incident occurred around 7.30 am on Sunday when five members of the group entered the sea for a swim. Local fishermen and lifeguards noticed them struggling in the water and immediately launched a rescue operation. Four of them were brought ashore, while Vishwesh was carried further out by the waves.
Shobha, a native of Jamshedpur in Jharkhand, died at the Gokarna Primary Health Centre. Akram died while being shifted to another hospital near Murudeshwar.
The two survivors, Nishanth D.V., 26, and Mohammed Qasim, were recovering after receiving medical treatment.
Uttara Kannada Superintendent of Police Deepan M.N. said warning boards had been installed at major beaches, but some tourists continued to ignore the warnings and venture into the sea.
He said the police would take stricter measures to prevent visitors from entering the water in unsafe conditions.
A case has been registered at the Gokarna police station, and further investigation is underway.
