Mangaluru, Nov 4, 2026: Mangaluru City Corporation Commissioner Rahul Ratnam Pandey, IAS, visited various parts of the city on Tuesday and interacted with residents to assess local civic issues and public grievances.
During his visit to Ullal Hoige, the Commissioner travelled by boat to inspect a damaged footbridge and complaints related to drinking water facilities in the area. Local residents apprised him of the drinking water shortage and the need to lay a pipeline. They also requested the provision of a bus shelter, road connectivity and bus services to the locality.
After discussing the issues with the officials concerned, Pandey assured residents that the problems would be examined and necessary action taken. He said addressing the drinking water shortage would be given top priority, particularly in view of the possibility of a prolonged summer and drought-like conditions in the district in the coming months.
Regarding the proposed drinking water pipeline, the Commissioner asked residents to submit a representation bearing the signatures and consent of at least 50 residents to the Corporation by November 4.
He said approval for the tender was expected within the following week, after which the work would commence. He also directed the concerned officials to take up the matter on an urgent basis.
Later, Pandey visited the Material Recovery Facility at Bajal, operated by the voluntary organisation Plastic Fischer in association with the Mangaluru City Corporation. He inspected the waste recycling process and held discussions with the organisation’s representatives. He assured them that the Corporation would extend the necessary cooperation and support to their activities.
The Commissioner also inspected the trash boom installed and maintained by Plastic Fischer at the stormwater drain along the Jeppinamogaru–Kudupady Road. Representatives of the organisation explained how plastic waste is collected using an anchoring system.
They informed him that the collected plastic waste is usually removed once every seven to 10 days during normal conditions, while collection is carried out once every four days during the monsoon.
MCC Deputy Commissioner (Development) Naresh P. Shenoy, former corporator Veena Mangala, and officials from the Environment Engineering and Engineering departments were present during the visits.
