Iran fires missiles at Israel for first time since ceasefire

Mangalore Today News Network

Iran, Jun 8, 2026: Iran on Monday launched a barrage of missiles towards Israel after vowing to retaliate against the US and Israel over a fresh attack on Beirut.

The latest Iranian missile strikes mark the first such direct incident against Israel since a fragile truce came into effect in April.

Iran strike

Earlier, Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said Iran “will not only halt the path of negotiations, but we will also be in direct confrontation with the enemy", following continued Israeli attacks on southern Lebanon and Beirut.

Shortly after the missiles were launched, the Israeli military confirmed on X that it had detected incoming fire from Iran. It said air raid sirens were activated in several areas while defence systems were working to intercept the threats.

In a follow-up statement, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said a further wave of missiles was also fired shortly after the first salvo. It added that its aerial defence network was actively tracking and intercepting incoming projectiles.

Israel’s military struck Beirut’s southern suburbs on Sunday, hitting apartments in two buildings after saying it had intercepted rockets launched by Hezbollah into Israeli territory. The Lebanese health ministry said the strike killed two people and wounded 20 others, including four children and four women.

Iran’s military central command said the strike on Beirut’s southern suburbs had “crossed all red lines" and demanded an end to Israeli operations in Lebanon. General Ali Abollahi, head of the Khatam al-Anbiya command, warned that any further escalation would bring “more devastating and regrettable blows", without directly referring to the missile launches.

Separately, Hezbollah said it launched a drone at an Israeli army post in northern Israel, confirming an attack hours after Israel said it had struck Beirut in retaliation for cross-border fire. The group said it targeted Israeli soldiers at the Dovev Barracks in response to what it called ceasefire violations and strikes in southern Lebanon.

Meanwhile, the Israeli military said it had intercepted all missiles fired from Iran so far, while warning of additional launches. “The IDF intercepted all missiles from Iran thus far," it said. “Additional launches have been identified toward the State of Israel. The aerial defence array is currently identifying and intercepting threats."

The escalation has further weakened hopes of a lasting peace in the region, where efforts to turn a fragile truce into a broader settlement have repeatedly stalled. The conflict, now in its 100th day, continues to unsettle global markets, while Tehran insists any final agreement must also address the fighting in Lebanon involving Hezbollah and Israeli forces.
