Kaup, Aug 04, 2021: A stone inscription belonging to the times of Vijayanagara ruler Krishnadevaraya was found during the renovation of the Sri Mahatobar Vishweshwara Temple of Yellur near here.
The inscription belongs to 1509 AD. The engravings on a granite stone has Sun, Moon, a lamp, Shivalinga, flower and royal sword apart from a Nandi.
The writings are in 12 lines and mentions the month of Jyeshta of Shalivahana Shaka 1434. The inscription also mentions Yellur, Aikala, Puttige areas and was given to Kunda Heggade of Devaradi by Barakura Ratnappa Odeya Aluvana Thirumalaraya and Thirumalarasa Kinnika Hegade under the guidance of Krishnadevaraya.
A history research student Shruthesh Acharya read the inspection under the guidance of Udupi’s Oriental Archives Research Centre Director Prof S A Krishnaiah.
