Mangalore, Oct 5: The members of the Koraga community of DK, Udupi, and Kasargod districts staged a protest against the injustice meted out to them by the government in front of the DC’s office on Oct 5, Tuesday.

Krishnappa Konchady, the state committee member of the Budakattu Janara Hakkugala Rashtriya Vedike, said that the Koraga community is facing a number of problems such as high mortality rate owing to malnutrition.


State President of CPI (M) B. Madhava said that, according to the act of 2006, the forest department must give land to the people and even provide the relevant property documents. Citing from the Mohammed Pheer report, he said that the main Koraga localities must be distributed as two-and-a-half acres of agricultural land and urged for the implementation of the ITDP scheme.


Further speaking about Koraga rights, Mr. Madhava said that job opportunities should be provided for the Koraga community and that the government must provide education to Koraga children and seats in professional colleges along with hostel facilities.


Vasanth Achary, the district secretary of CPI (M); Sukumar, Muneer Katipalla of DYFI, and Sunil Kumar Bajal also participated in the protest.
