Mangalore Today News Network

Mangaluru, May 2, 2026: Police have arrested two individuals, identified as Dhananjaya (51) and Kushadhara (42), on charges of stealing diesel from a tanker near Meenakaliya Kodikal Gate in Panambur.

Acting on credible information, Food Inspector Harris M.V., along with Panambur police, conducted a raid at around 8:15 pm on Thursday. The accused were allegedly found siphoning diesel from the tanker using a plastic pipe and filling it into cans.

Diesel theft

At the spot, officials recovered approximately 157 litres of diesel worth around ₹14,000, which had been illegally extracted and stored in eight cans. The police also seized the plastic pipe used for siphoning and the tanker.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused had attempted to illegally sell the diesel by transferring it into cans, thereby violating provisions of the Essential Commodities Act. Police have registered a case, also alleging that Dhananjaya had fraudulently diverted diesel after filling the tanker from MRPL, cheating the owner and the company.
