Mangaluru, May 1, 2026: An inmate returning to prison after being discharged from a hospital was caught attempting to smuggle a mobile phone concealed in his rectum on Wednesday, April 30.
The prisoner, identified as Mohammed Tohid, had been admitted to Wenlock Hospital for treatment on April 24. After being discharged on April 29, he was brought back to the District Prison in Kodialbail at around 5:15 pm.

During routine security screening at the prison entrance, personnel of the Karnataka State Industrial Security Force (KSISF) detected suspicious activity when a metal detector beeped near the inmate’s lower body. Upon questioning, Tohid admitted to hiding a mobile phone in his rectum.
He was then taken back to the hospital, where doctors safely removed a keypad mobile phone. A case has been registered at Barke police station, and further investigation is underway.
