Mangaluru: Goods auto driver dies after crashing into judge’s car at Karangalpady

Mangaluru, Sep 30, 2026: A 69-year-old goods auto-rickshaw driver died after sustaining serious injuries when the vehicle he was driving collided with a car being driven by a judge of the Mangaluru 1st Additional District Court at Karangalpady on Wednesday.

The accident occurred around 10 am at Karangalpady. According to the police, the goods auto-rickshaw was coming from the Court Road when it collided with the car as the latter was turning from the Karangalpady Main Road towards Court Road.

The car was being driven by Judge Vinay, who sustained injuries to his hand in the accident.

The goods auto-rickshaw overturned following the collision, throwing its driver, identified as Chandra K. (69), onto the road. He sustained serious injuries and was shifted to a hospital, where he died around noon while undergoing treatment.

The overturned goods auto also hit a scooter that was nearby. The scooter rider, identified as Flavier (51), fell onto the road and sustained injuries.

Chandra, a native of Mogral in Kasaragod district, was working as a driver of a goods auto-rickshaw belonging to Kalpana Sweets in Mangaluru.

A case has been registered at the Kadri Traffic Police Station based on a complaint filed by Judge Vinay.

CCTV footage of the accident has been obtained by the police. The footage reportedly shows the goods auto-rickshaw moving straight towards the car before the collision.

Police said they are examining whether the driver may have experienced blurred vision or some other problem before the accident. They also noted that the impact could possibly have been less severe if the vehicle had braked before the collision.
