Mangaluru, May 2, 2026: BJP Dakshina Kannada district president Satish Kumpala has alleged that the state Congress government has failed completely in governance and development, with internal discussions over who should be Chief Minister dominating the past year.
Addressing a press conference at the BJP district office in the city on Friday, he said it is no secret that D.K. Shivakumar has been positioning himself for the Chief Minister’s post since the Congress came to power. He added that leaders like G. Parameshwara and Mallikarjun Kharge are also seen preparing for the top post, leading to a breakdown in the administrative system. He further claimed that beneficiaries are not receiving the intended benefits of the government’s guarantee schemes.
Kumpala alleged that there has been “zero development” over the past three years and that leaders are making frequent trips to Delhi in pursuit of power. “People are witnessing a free drama over the Chief Minister’s post,” he remarked. He also accused the government of delaying payments under the Gruha Lakshmi scheme to women and increasing electricity tariffs despite promising free power.
He pointed out that the Revenue Department has come to a standstill due to server issues, affecting services such as payment of property tax and issuance of birth and death certificates. In Dakshina Kannada district, surveyors have been on strike for 55 days, leaving around 15,000 applications pending. He said even 11 e-sketches could not be processed, making the situation serious, and alleged that the district in-charge minister has not paid attention to the issue.

MLC Kishore Kumar said that around 5,000 party workers from the district will participate in the event marking former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa’s 50 years in public life, scheduled to be held in Chitradurga on May 9.
BJP district general secretary Premanand Shetty, Mangaluru City South Mandal president Ramesh Kandettu, OBC Morcha district president Mahesh Jogi, Yuva Morcha district president Nandan Mallya, Sanjay Prabhu, and Vasanth Poojary were present at the press meet.
