Eid Milad celebrations held across Dakshina Kannada; U T Khader announces special law for Haj, Umrah operators

Ullal, Aug 25, 2026: A special law will be introduced to regulate private agencies arranging Haj and Umrah pilgrimages amid complaints that some operators have allegedly abandoned pilgrims midway through their journeys, said Minister for Minority Welfare, Haj and Wakf U T Khader.

He was speaking after flagging off a Milad-un-Nabi walking procession at Kotekar, organised under the Ullal Dargah and involving students from 34 madrasas across 27 mahallas.

This year, around 11,000 people have applied for the Haj pilgrimage. Arrangements for Umrah, along with Haj, will also be made under the Haj Committee, Khader said. A web portal will be launched to collect and provide information related to pilgrims, he added.

A Haj Bhavan has already been constructed in Bengaluru, with facilities provided for pilgrims travelling for Haj through Bengaluru. In the next phase, a Haj Bhavan will be constructed at Bajpe, and arrangements will soon be made to facilitate direct Haj travel from Mangaluru for pilgrims from the region, Khader said.

Calling upon people to observe Milad-un-Nabi by following the teachings of Prophet Muhammad in their daily lives, Khader said the occasion should be used to imbibe his principles of peace and harmony.

Ullal Dargah Administrative Committee president Hanif Haji presided over the programme. Several committee office-bearers, religious leaders, mosque and madrasa representatives, Congress leaders and students participated.

The procession began at Kotekar and passed through Mukacheri, Azad Nagar and Melangadi before concluding at the Ullal Syed Madani Dargah.

Milad celebrations across Dakshina Kannada

Milad-un-Nabi was celebrated peacefully across Dakshina Kannada district to mark the 1,501st birth anniversary of Prophet Muhammad.

Religious programmes and organised Milad processions were held in several parts of the district, including Puttur, Bantwal and Mangaluru. In Puttur, public processions proceeded peacefully under tight police security despite a bandh-like atmosphere.

Large Swalat and Milad processions were also held in Bajal in Mangaluru and in Panemangalore Guddeangadi and Aladka areas of Bantwal, organised jointly by various mosques and madrasas.

Daf performances, scout contingents and flower displays were among the major attractions of the processions. Religious leaders, mosque office-bearers and hundreds of residents participated, spreading the Prophet’s message of peace and communal harmony.
