Mangaluru: Health officials raid Thokkottu hotel after cockroach found in sambar

Mangaluru, Aug 26, 2026: District Food Safety Designated Officer Dr Praveen Kumar conducted a surprise inspection at Vrindavan Hotel in Thokkottu, Ullal, following a customer complaint that a cockroach was found in sambar.

Dr Praveen Kumar, accompanied by his driver, arrived at the hotel at around 1.30 pm and inspected the kitchen thoroughly after opening the hotel shutters.

Speaking to the media, Dr Praveen Kumar said the inspection was carried out based on the customer’s complaint. During the inspection, officials found that the hotel did not have a separate storage room for food items and that ingredients were piled up haphazardly throughout the kitchen.

The officials removed food items that had not been stored properly and checked whether the kitchen had been thoroughly washed and cleaned. The hotel owner was strictly instructed to systematically arrange and store food items in separate designated areas.

Dr Praveen Kumar said a notice had been issued to the hotel owner for failing to maintain proper hygiene standards. A case will also be filed before the Additional Deputy Commissioner’s (ADC) court, he added.
