Mangaluru: Car crashes into fruit-laden tempo near Kolnadu, five seriously injured

Mangaluru, Aug 26, 2026: Five persons, including three occupants of a car and two in a mini goods tempo, sustained serious injuries after the car collided with the fruit-laden vehicle and overturned on the National Highway near Kolnadu on Tuesday.

The injured were identified as Sampath Shetty (69), Mamata Shetty, Sumitra (28), tempo driver Basheer (42) and Asif (23).

Car crash

The car was travelling from Bengaluru towards Udupi when the driver reportedly lost control near Kolnadu. The car skidded, rammed into the mini goods tempo and overturned before landing in a roadside drain.

The impact ripped off the upper portion of the tempo, which fell onto the highway divider.

Local residents rescued the injured, who were trapped inside the car, and shifted them to a hospital by ambulance.

The accident disrupted traffic on the highway for some time. The damaged car was later removed from the spot using a crane.
