Mangaluru: Acid attack accused sentenced to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment, fined Rs 3 lakh

Mangaluru, Aug 26, 2026: The Mangaluru 5th Additional District and Sessions Court has sentenced an accused in an acid attack case registered six years ago under the Kadaba police station limits to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 3 lakh.

The case was registered in 2020 against Jayananda K (60), a resident of Koditabal in Kadaba taluk, for allegedly carrying out the acid attack. Then Puttur Women’s Police Station Inspector Kusumadhara, who investigated the case, had filed the chargesheet before the court.


Acid attack

After hearing the arguments from both sides, Judge Sadananda Nagappanayak of the 5th Additional District and Sessions Court convicted the accused under Section 326A of the IPC and sentenced him to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 3 lakh. In case of failure to pay the fine, he will have to undergo an additional two years of simple imprisonment.

The court also sentenced him to one year of imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 under Section 504 of the IPC. Failure to pay the fine will result in an additional three months of simple imprisonment.

Public prosecutors Krishnaveni, Harishchandra Udyavar, Prakash Chandra Shetty and Jayanti K represented the prosecution.
