Mangalore, Apr 25: Rajayogini Mahatapaswini Dadi Jankiji, Chief of Brahma Kumaris, World Headquarters, Mount Abu, has inaugurated the City Centre, 10th largest malls in India and the second largest mall in Karnataka, situated on K S Rao Road in Mangalore on April 25 at 11 a.m.

It is the happiness, which changes the entire life style of human beings said Dadi Jankiji, after the lighting of lamp. She has denoted the shopping mall as the centre of unity, peace, love, happiness and power. The shopping mall will attract all the section of people in this area, she added.  


District-in-charge Minister Krishna J Palemar congratulated Mohtisham and the land owners- Usha Shetty and others for launching the mega project City Centre and urged the people to co-operate with the authorities in leading Mangalore to greater heights of development. He remarked that the intelligent people of Mangalore should not allow frivolous issues to deter the city’s growth. 


Crediting Mohtisham for establishing the apartment culture in Mangalore and for providing the required infrastructure that accelerated the development of the city, he said that the launching of City Centre has proved that Mangalore is the second fastest growing tier II city in India.

 

Palemar further commented that the Comprehensive Development Plan (CDP), being people friendly, will definitely play a great role in the development of Mangalore. He urged builders not to violate building norms, while pointing out that the government’s modification of the CDP makes the establishment of red and green industries easier. He also added that the government will monitor these industries closely to ensure that they do not violate environmental regulation. He revealed that plans are afoot to construct a city out of a city to reduce the population density and overcrowding.

Regarding tourism development in Mangalore, the minister said that the district offers great opportunities for tourism development and has invited people to promote the tourism industry. 


Chancellor of NITTE University, N Vinaya Hegde said that it was his privilege to be part of the inauguration ceremony of City Centre. claiming Subbayya Nayak, the founder of Vishwa Bhavan and Hotel Woodside, as his role model. He lauded  Sri Nayak as a visionary who had established luxury hotels, five decades ago.


Pointing out that each city has its trend setters, he said that Mohtisham is the trendsetter as far as Mangalore in concerned. The builders have offered a new concept that will enable Mangalore to far surpass Dubai, he claimed. He appreciated Mohtisham for placing emphasis on safety during the construction of the new mall. 


The guests were welcomed in a traditional manner. Giselle Mehta made the welcome speech and said that City Centre will introduce the people of Mangalore to a totally new lifestyle. 


S M Arshad, the managing director of Mohtisham, presented a brief account of the construction of the 10th largest mall in India and the 2nd largest mall in Karnataka. He said that the mall is meant to cater to the requirements of top-budget shoppers. He informed that 60 percent of the shops will be launched at the end of May and that the multiplex will be ready by August. He announced that the mall has generated 2,700 direct jobs and 1,500 indirect jobs.


The audience applauded when he announced that Mohtisham has successfully completed 40 projects and 2 malls and that it plans to establish a new 300-acre township called “Celebrations” in Mangalore. 


Mayor Rajani Dugganna, Mayor of Mangalore, Sadananda Gowda, MP, Yogesh Bhat, UT Khader , MLA, Nalin Kumar Kateel, MP, Abhayachandra Jain, MLA, BA Mohiudeen, chairman, BA Group, Thumbay, Karthikeyan, GM, State Bank of India, Bangalore Circle, Deputy Mayor Rajendra Kumar, Ranganath Kini, Sudhir Shetty. Chairman, Town Planning and Development, MCC were present on the occasion.


The mall sprawls over 5.4 sq ft and houses more than 170 national and international tenants. The major anchors of the Rs 115 crore projects are Spar Hypermarket, Westside, Lifestyle, Reliance Timeout, Reliance Trends, Reliance Digital, Mom and Me, Sports XS, Reliance Jewels, Gili, Planet Sports, Hidesign, Lush, and the Body Shop. A five-screen cinema operated by Cinepolis, the fourth largest multiplex based in Mexico, will be the main attraction of mall. 


The mall has seven levels of retail shopping space, five levels of parking space for 800 four wheelers and 1000 two wheelers. There are eight passenger lifts, two travelators, 27 escalators, and five freight lifts.


Fully air-conditioned mall has absolute back-up power supply. Moreover, the project has state of the art fire and safety measures of international standard and it is as per the National Building Code stipulation.
