Corporate Affairs Minister Veerappa Moily inaugurates Export Vision 2020

Mangalore, Feb 13, 2012: Dr. M. Veerappa Moily, the union minister for corporate affairs, inaugurated the Karnataka Export Vision 2020 organized jointly by the Federation of Indian Export Organizations (southern region), the Exporters’ Convention, Kanara Chambers of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), and Mangalore Airport at Dr. T. M. A. Pai Convention Centre on Feb 13 Monday. 


In his inauguration address, he said that the traditional export of Mangalore needs to be rejuvenated as the nation aims to reach 4 percent share by 2020. 


Stating that the corporate meet was commenced in January, he said that the capital market has now picked up, making rejuvenation easy. According to the results of a survey, 90 percent of big corporate bodies in foreign countries will brighten our country.

Predicting that India will be the largest economy of the world in 2039 and the topmost in GDP level in comparison to China, he said that foreign trade policy envisages doubling of India’s share of global exports by 2020. 


Stating that Mangalore holds immense opportunity for high trade and industry, Moily said that it is second only to Mumbai. Regarding ports, Mangalore has potential for export owing to the presence of SEZ and excellent highway connectivity. 


Referring to Mangalore as the future gateway of India for commercial capital, he said that the people of Mangalore must be empowered and taught to become creators of wealth. He also suggested that each state and district ought to have an RND centre to provide information regarding export. An innovation export cell also needs to be established, he added. 


Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Anup K. Pujari IAS, DGFT, Government of India, said that efficiency and innovation are the keys to low-cost productivity. 


Walter D’Souza, the chairman of the Federation of Indian Export Organizations, delivered the welcome address. 


The guests of honor were Deputy Speaker N. Yogish Bhat, MLA K. Abhayachandra Jain, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, IOB Chairman M. Narendra, and FIEO President Padmashree Rafeeque Ahmed. 


G. Mohandas Nayak, the president of the KCCI; Thejomaya, the coordinator of the organizing committee; P. Tamil Vanan, the chairman of NMPT; and M. R. Vasudeva, the director of the Mangalore Airport, were the dignitaries on the dais. 


Meanwhile, the Karataka Janabhivriddhi Vedike organized a protest against the Export Vision in front of the venue. The protestors claimed that Export Vision 2020 will destroy agricultural farms and farmers.
