Belthangady, July 9, 2026: A Booth Level Officer (BLO) has alleged that she was subjected to caste-based abuse while carrying out duties related to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls under the jurisdiction of the Venoor Police Station.

Based on her complaint, the Venoor Police have registered a case under various provisions of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

According to police, the complainant, an anganwadi worker serving as a BLO, had visited the residence of Yashoda Achari in Shirlalu village on July 6 as part of the electoral roll revision exercise.

In her complaint, she alleged that Yashoda verbally abused and insulted her on the basis of her caste and prevented her from entering the verandah of the house.

The BLO lodged a complaint with the police on July 7, following which a case was registered. Further investigation is under way.
