US strikes Iran’s Chabahar Port after Trump warns attacks ’will get much worse’

Mangalore Today News Network

New Delhi, Jul 9, 2026: The United States on Thursday launched airstrikes targeting key facilities at Iran’s strategic port of Chabahar, hours after President Donald Trump warned Tehran that further attacks would be met with an even stronger response.

According to Iranian state media, the strikes hit two marine piers and a maritime traffic control tower at the southeastern port city.

US strikes Irans Chabahar Port

State broadcaster IRIB reported that several projectiles struck the Shahid Beheshti dock, the Kalantari dock and the maritime traffic control tower.

Images and videos circulating on social media appeared to show the traffic control tower at Beheshti Port destroyed following the strikes.

The head of the Chabahar Free Zone Organisation also confirmed that the port’s maritime traffic control tower had been hit and destroyed, according to Iran International.

10 Explosions Heard Around Chabahar Port

Residents reported hearing around 10 explosions across Chabahar and the neighbouring city of Konarak. The strikes also disrupted electricity supplies, with nearly half of Chabahar losing power.

The provincial electricity chief for Sistan and Baluchestan said three power lines had been cut during the attack, adding that two had already been restored while work was underway to reconnect the third.

Located on the Gulf of Oman just outside the Strait of Hormuz, Chabahar is Iran’s only ocean-facing port and serves as a critical maritime gateway.

The reported strike on its maritime traffic control tower is significant because the facility manages the movement of ships entering and leaving the port.

US Strikes Iran As Trump Warns Attacks ‘Will Get Much Worse’

The latest strikes came after the U.S. military announced a fresh round of operations against Iran, saying the attacks were aimed at safeguarding freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz after Tuesday’s assault on three cargo ships transiting the vital waterway.

President Donald Trump had earlier warned that the strikes were retaliation for attacks on cargo vessels.

“This is in retribution for yesterday’s bombing of ships by Iran. If it happens again, it will get much worse!" Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

The Strait of Hormuz, through which around one-fifth of global oil supplies passed before the war began with U.S.-Israeli airstrikes on Iran on February 28, has become a key flashpoint in the conflict. While Iran has not claimed responsibility for the attacks on the cargo ships, the US has continued to blame Tehran for the attacks.
