Puttur Police Rescue Three Cattle, Arrest Driver Over Illegal Transport

Puttur, Aug 23, 2026: Puttur town police on Sunday rescued three cattle allegedly being transported illegally for slaughter and arrested the driver of the pick-up vehicle.

Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted the vehicle at Jidekallu in Chikkamudnoor village while it was travelling from Anadka towards Padil. The cattle were found tied inside the vehicle in an alleged cruel manner.

The driver, identified as Mohammed Jabbar, reportedly told police that he had purchased the cattle from Ashok of Shanthigodu village and was transporting them for slaughter without valid permits.

Police seized the vehicle and the cattle and took Jabbar into custody. A case has been registered under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, Karnataka Prevention of Slaughter and Preservation of Cattle Act, 2020, and the Indian Motor Vehicles Act. Further investigation is underway.
