Mangaluru: ABVP seeks action against ACP for slapping student

Mangaluru, Oct 15, 2026: Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) leaders have questioned the police for allegedly asking students arrested during a protest against examinations held during the Dasara festival at a city college to sign a bond of ₹1 lakh, pledging not to participate in similar protests in the future.

Addressing a press conference at the Mangaluru Press Club, ABVP Karnataka State Joint Secretary Suvit Shetty questioned the fairness of such a move in a democratic system.

“Several protests have taken place in Mangaluru. How many of them have resulted in such bond requirements?” he asked.

Shetty said ABVP leaders had visited the college on October 10 to discuss the issue with the management, keeping students’ interests in mind. However, he alleged that the management had not shown the courtesy to engage in a discussion.

Following this, students decided to protest against the college’s decision on October 12, and ABVP extended its support to their agitation, he said.

When asked whether the organisation had obtained police permission to protest outside an educational institution while examinations were underway, Shetty said they had not gone there with the intention of staging a protest.

He further alleged that a police officer had slapped a student at the spot and questioned the officer’s authority to do so.

Shetty demanded that the officer apologise by the evening and that disciplinary action be initiated against him. He warned that ABVP would intensify its agitation from the following day if its demands were not met.

ABVP leaders Shashank, Harshitha and Tasmay were present at the press conference.
