Bengaluru, July 8, 2026: Karnataka BJP president B Y Vijayendra on Wednesday slammed the Congress for demanding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s resignation over the alleged theft of donations at the Ayodhya Ram Temple, calling the party "hypocritical" and terming its demand a "political drama."
In a post on X, Vijayendra said the Congress should first explain why senior leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi continue to hold key positions in the party despite being named in the National Herald case.

"Congress has turned hypocrisy into a habit. The KPCC demanding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s resignation over Ayodhya Ram Mandir donations is nothing but political drama," he said.
"Before pointing fingers at PM Modi, Congress should answer why Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi continue to hold public positions while facing serious questions in the National Herald case, which involves assets built on the legacy of our freedom movement," he added.
Vijayendra asserted that no amount of "fake outrage" or "selective morality" could shake the people’s faith in Prime Minister Modi and accused the Congress of trying to conceal its own corruption by invoking the Ram Temple issue.

He also praised Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for ordering an investigation into the alleged embezzlement and contrasted it with the Congress government’s handling of the alleged MUDA and Valmiki scams in Karnataka.
"That is how a government with nothing to hide behaves. In Karnataka, however, the Congress has tried every trick to bury the MUDA and Valmiki scams. The same party that cries political vendetta when the ED or CBI probes its scams is now suddenly showing faith in the CBI when it suits its politics," he said.
The Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) general body meeting on Tuesday passed five resolutions, including one seeking a CBI probe into the alleged embezzlement of donations at the Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
The Congress also demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, holding them morally responsible for the alleged scam.
Meanwhile, the Uttar Pradesh Special Investigation Team (SIT) has arrested eight people in connection with the alleged embezzlement of cash offerings made at the Ram Temple.
