CM issues order to evict Patrao from his land, say government sources

Mangalore Today News Network

GregoryMangalore, September 11: Reliable government sources have revealed that CM B. S. Yeddyurappa has issued an order to the Karnataka Industrial Area Development Board (KIADB) to evict Gregory Patrao from his ancestral land. A copy of the order has been sent to the deputy commissioner as well.

Gregory Patrao has been fighting against the illegal acquisition of his ancestral agricultural land for industrial purposes. With the support of various associations and organizations, he had staged a hunger strike for 24 days. He had called off the hunger strike when A. S. Anand, the chairman of the organic farming mission, met him and convinced him to withdraw it. The chief minister personally spoke to Mr. Gregory Patro and promised him justice.

Later, M. V. Jayanthi, the Mysore regional commissioner, visited Mr. Patrao and discussed the issue with him. She submitted a report to the government on Aug 16; and the CM’s present move is reportedly based on this 48-page report.

Mr. Patrao, however, says that he is unaware of the CM’s order. When some people informed him of news reports regarding the order in a daily, he contacted A. S. Anand, who spoke to the CM. According to Mr. Anand, the CM is not aware of the order, but has promised to settle the issue after the Kadur and the Gulbarga elections.
