Mangaluru: Private bus driver gets 8 months jail for accident that claimed woman’s life

Mangaluru, May 10, 2025: The third JMFC Court has sentenced a private bus driver to eight months of imprisonment in connection with a case of accident that claimed the life of a woman at Bendorewell Junction in 2023.

The convicted bus driver is H Bhasker of Vamanjoor. The accident took place on March 30, 2023 when the bus driven by Bhasker had fatally knocked down Irene D’Souza (72) who was crossing the door.

The bus driver had fled the scene of the accident soon after. Later a complaint was lodged alleging that the negligence of the driver was the cause of the accident.

The court which has given its verdict has also slapped a penalty of Rs 27,000 on the driver. The bus conductor Musftafa has been slapped with a penalty of Rs 10,000 for functioning without license and also the bus owner Arun Menezes has been penalized Rs 5000 for allowing Mustafa to function without a license.
