Mangaluru, Jun 25, 2026: Mangaluru North Police have arrested a theft accused who had been absconding for nearly a decade and evading court proceedings. The accused has been identified as Prasad (33), a resident of Kunthalpady in Erlampady village of Karkala taluk, Udupi district. He is the son of Uday Poojary.
According to police, a theft case had been registered against Prasad at Mangaluru North Police Station under Crime No. 289/2016 under Section 379 of the Indian Penal Code. During the course of the trial, the accused failed to appear before the court and went into hiding. As he remained untraceable for a prolonged period, the court had classified the case as an LPC (Long Pending Case).
During the investigation, police also found that Prasad was involved in several other cases registered at Hiriyadka, Konaje, and Manipal police stations.
After evading court proceedings for nearly 10 years, Prasad was traced and arrested by officers and staff of Mangaluru North Police Station on June 24. He was subsequently produced before the court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
With this arrest, the accused, who had been on the run for years, has finally been brought to justice through the sustained efforts of the police.
