Mangaluru, May 10, 2025: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is scheduled to visit Mangaluru on May 16, during which he will inaugurate two major infrastructure projects — the newly constructed Deputy Commissioner’s office at Padil and a state-of-the-art indoor stadium at Urwa, announced district in-charge minister Dinesh Gundu Rao.
The new Deputy Commissioner’s office has been built at a total cost of ₹75 crore. Initially estimated at ₹55 crore, an additional ₹20 crore was allocated from the Smart City Mission to enhance infrastructure and incorporate modern amenities. The facility is expected to streamline public service delivery and offer a centralized administrative setup for the district.
“This new DC office underscores our commitment to efficient governance and citizen-focused service delivery,” said Gundu Rao. “With 23 departments housed under one roof, it will simplify administration and improve accessibility for the public.”
The indoor stadium at Urwa, constructed at a cost of ₹35 crore, is equipped with modern facilities to host various sporting and indoor events. The project aims to promote sports culture and provide high-quality training infrastructure for local athletes.
Both projects were initiated during Siddaramaiah’s previous tenure as Chief Minister and are now ready for formal inauguration following the completion of construction.
The process of relocating government departments to the new DC office will begin on the day of the inauguration, with a phased shift expected to be completed within two to three weeks. District officials and elected representatives are expected to attend the inauguration ceremonies.
Addressing recent controversies, Gundu Rao commented on the spread of misinformation: “Police have taken firm action against the circulation of fake news and inflammatory content on social media. Several cases have already been registered.”
Responding to criticism over the Congress government’s alleged failure to visit the residence of Suhas Shetty, Gundu Rao stated, “Murders occur for various reasons. The government will act in accordance with the law, but there is no compulsion to visit every victim’s home.”
Regarding the BJP’s skepticism about the investigation into Shetty’s death, he added, “We cannot respond to unfounded allegations. If they possess credible information, they should share it with the police for appropriate investigation.”
On the issue of rising tensions between India and Pakistan, Gundu Rao said, “The Chief Minister will convene a meeting with police officials to review state security and discuss preventive measures. He may also have received guidance from the central government.”
