Mangaluru: NSUI celebration over student union polls triggers ABVP protest at University College

Mangaluru, Mar 11, 2026: Celebrations and protests were witnessed at the University College campus in Hampankatta on Wednesday following the state government’s announcement in the budget to restart student union elections in colleges and to launch Student Indira Canteens.

Members of the NSUI student organisation celebrated the government’s decision at the campus, welcoming the move to revive student union elections and introduce subsidised canteens for students.

However, members of the ABVP student organisation staged a protest condemning the celebrations. The protesting students alleged that NSUI members entered the college premises and disrupted academic activities.

ABVP activists gathered near the college entrance gate and raised slogans against the NSUI organisation. The protesters also shouted slogans against the college principal for allegedly allowing NSUI members to enter the campus.

The situation led to tense scenes near the college gate as the students continued their demonstration.
