Trump Hints at Possible US Strike on Iran as Hormuz Talks Remain Uncertain

Mangalore Today News Network

New Delhi, Oct 25, 2026: US President Donald Trump has hinted that American forces could strike Iran as early as Sunday, while keeping open the possibility of a negotiated agreement amid conflicting reports over efforts to resolve the dispute surrounding the Strait of Hormuz.

Speaking to reporters after voting in Florida on Saturday, Trump declined to confirm whether military action was imminent. “Do you really think I’d tell you that? Maybe tomorrow,” he said, adding that a “nice, big, beautiful agreement” with Iran was also possible.

US Strike on Iran

Trump said Tehran wanted a deal but questioned whether Iranian officials would honour its terms. His remarks marked a shift from his October 8 statement that the US would not attack Iran before the November 3 midterm elections.

Defending the US military’s role in the conflict, Trump claimed American forces had inflicted heavy losses on Iran’s military and navy.

Conflicting accounts over Hormuz proposal

Iranian officials have offered differing accounts of diplomatic efforts to resolve the standoff. Iran’s ambassador to Pakistan, Reza Amiri Moghadam, reportedly said Tehran had conveyed through Islamabad its willingness to reopen the Strait of Hormuz if Washington lifted its naval blockade of Iranian ports.

However, a source quoted by Iran’s Revolutionary Guard-affiliated Tasnim news agency rejected a Saudi broadcaster’s report that Tehran had submitted a fresh proposal to Pakistan, calling it fabricated. The source said Iran’s existing seven-day plan had already been conveyed to Washington through intermediaries.

Neither account indicated that the US and Iran had reached an agreement.

Strategic shipping route under pressure

The Strait of Hormuz is a vital global energy corridor through which substantial volumes of oil and gas reach international markets. Continued attacks on commercial vessels since the conflict involving the US, Israel and Iran began in February have heightened concerns over shipping security and energy supplies.

Meanwhile, fresh security warnings have raised concerns about possible Iranian threats to American personnel overseas. The US State Department has begun relocating non-essential staff and family members from diplomatic missions across the region, according to the report.
