The arrested revealed under police interrogation that he intended to commit suicide after killing the children. He said that he had fled from Tumkur on Monday after murdering his sister-in-law and mother-in-law.

The accused is Ramesh Naik (40) of Ardamoole near Panaje. He was employed as the manager of the Solapur branch of Punjab National Bank in Maharashtra. His wife Sundari is a clerk in the State Bank of Mysore. The family lived in Kumutaiah Layout in the second phase of Banashankari in Tumkur.

Sundari, who was recently transferred to Mangalore, had arrived at the city with her two children Bhuvanaraj (10) and Krittika (3) and reported for duty in the local branch of the bank. Naik arrived at Mangalore on Wednesday and reportedly took his children to Puttur when she was at work. At 7:30 p.m., he took the children to Ardamoole and pushed them into the tank.

The bodies were discovered on Wednesday evening and taken to a hospital. Initially, the children were believed to have died of accidental drowning; but Naik’s maternal uncle lodged a complaint with the Mangalore rural police on Wednesday night accusing Naik of having murdered his children. Naik is reported to have booked a room in a lodge with the purpose of committing suicide, but the police arrested him before he could do so.

On June 14, Monday, Naik, who has a rented house in Tumkur, had a heated argument with Sarswathi (60), his mother-in-law, and Savita, his sister-in-law, and murdered them by strangling them and throwing them into a well. Sundari came to know of this terrible incident only after Naik revealed the truth to the police on the night of Wednesday.

Ramesh Naik, who had been taking care of his sister-in-law for the past many years, was planning to get her married shortly. But Savita, who works in Bangalore, had fallen in love with another man. An enraged Naik murdered Savita and her mother after a verbal fight. Ramesh also wanted to kill his wife, but could not do so because she was at the bank.

The Mangalore rural police informed the Tumkur police, who immediately rushed to Naik’s rented house in Tumkur and retrieved the bodies of his mother-in-law and sister-in-law from the well on the morning of Thursday.

The Mangalore rural police have registered a case and are investigating the multiple murders.
