Kasaragod: Car catches fire while moving, driver escapes unhurt

Kasaragod, Sep 19, 2026: A Maruti car caught fire while it was being driven along the Nellikatte Road at Adrunguli in Kasaragod on Friday night. The vehicle was completely gutted in the fire, while the driver escaped unhurt.

According to reports, the driver, Ashraf, noticed thick smoke emerging from the engine while travelling along the Adrunguli Road. He immediately applied the brakes and attempted to stop the car, but the brakes reportedly failed.

The car then rolled backwards and crashed into a concrete roadside pole before coming to a halt. Ashraf quickly unfastened his seat belt and jumped out of the vehicle, narrowly escaping injury.

Moments after the driver got out, the car caught fire and was completely engulfed in flames. Fire and Rescue Services personnel from Kasaragod rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control.

No casualties were reported in the incident. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.
