Mangaluru, Apr 21, 2026: Australian Consul General Hilary McGeachy met Dakshina Kannada MP Capt Brijesh Chowta in Mangaluru and discussed various initiatives that could contribute to the district’s development, with a focus on adventure water sports and tourism.

During the interaction held on Monday following her visit to the city, both sides explored the potential for promoting adventure water sports and tourism, highlighting that both Australia and Dakshina Kannada share extensive coastlines. They also discussed how Australia’s technical expertise and decades of experience in the sector could be effectively utilised for the development of the coastal region.

The meeting further covered the possibility of establishing partnerships with Australian universities to develop sports curricula, aimed at creating greater opportunities for youth in the sports sector.

Speaking after the meeting, MP Chowta said such initiatives would not only strengthen bilateral ties but also open new avenues for young people by equipping them with global-level skills and recognition. He added that these efforts would contribute significantly to economic growth and align with the vision of a ‘Viksit Bharat’.
