Vijay College student Harshit dies of drowning

Mulky, July 23, 2011 :Harshit Poojary (20), a final BCom student of the Mulky-based Vijaya College died of drowning in a lake at Dalantarakere near Mudarangady on July 22 Friday.

Reportedly, a group of students—Harshit Poojary, Chethan Poojary, Devraj Rao, and Subramanya Rao, Sachin, and others—had gone to the lake for a swim at around 3:15 p.m. Harshit was standing near the lake with Sachin and waving at some of their friends who were swimming in the lake when he suddenly lost his balance and fell into the lake.

Harshith, who belongs to a middle-class family, knew swimming, but the lake was nearly 20ft deep and the impact of falling into it suddenly might have shocked him. Harshith lost his father at an early age and is survived by mother and sister.

The fire-fighting personnel, assisted by the local residents, found his body after nearly 3 hours.

Harshit’s body is now in the morgue of Padubidri Government Hospital and the Padubidri Police have registered a case.

Sachin Nayak, the member of the Hejamady taluk panchayat; Geethanjali Suvarna, the member of the Zilla Panchayat; Shankar, the principal of Mulky Vijaya college; and Sunil Raj Shetty, the president of Mudarangady Gram Panchayat; and others visited the spot.
