Bengaluru, Apr 30, 2026: The Department of School Education and Literacy has issued a circular strictly prohibiting students from performing dances to obscene songs during cultural programmes and annual day celebrations in schools and colleges.

According to the circular, exposure to such songs can adversely affect students’ mental health. It also warned that such content may encourage indiscipline and undermine the dignity of educational institutions.

The department has instructed all government, aided, and unaided schools across the state to raise awareness and enforce strict measures to prevent students from dancing to obscene songs.

It further cautioned that action will be taken against head teachers and school managements found permitting or encouraging such performances.

As an alternative, teachers have been advised to choose songs that promote inspiration, patriotism, moral values, respect, and a sense of brotherhood.
