Kundapura: Husband, lover die by suicide amid probe into wife poisoning case

Kundapura, September 30, 2026: Two key accused in a case involving an alleged attempt to kill a woman by poisoning her were found dead after allegedly dying by suicide near the Souparnika River at Charsali in Golihole under the Byndoor police station limits. The incident came to light on September 29.

The deceased have been identified as Vittal Naik, 35, and Bhavya alias Nishmitha, 33. A criminal case had been registered against the two at the Kollur police station on September 11.

According to police sources, cases had been registered against them under Sections 123, 109 and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Case background

Vittal Naik was allegedly accused of attempting to kill his wife by administering poison through an injection. Bhavya, who was allegedly in a relationship with Vittal, was also accused of being involved in the alleged act. The matter was under investigation.

The bodies of the two were found hanging near the riverbank. Preliminary police investigation suggests that they may have died by suicide a few days before their bodies were discovered.

A Scene of Crime Officer (SOCO) and forensic team visited the spot and conducted an inspection. Byndoor police have registered a case and initiated further investigation.
