Talented athlete hangs herself in college hostel

Udupi, Sep 28, 2011 : Prathvi (18), a student of SMS PU College in Brahmavar and a promising national athlete, hanged herself in her room in the college hostel on September 27 Tuesday. She had just returned to Brahmavar after winning a silver medal in the javelin throw event of the Divisional Level Dasara Sports Meet held in Mandya from September 22 Thursday.

pravithra The Brahmavar Sports Club had been sponsoring her studies and sports activities for the past one year, and Prathvi had already achieved a lot in the State Level Junior Sports Meet held in Bangalore by winning the gold medal in the heptathlon and the silver medal in the javelin throw event. She had won the silver medal in the heptathlon and the bronze medal in the javelin throw at the South Zone Sports Meet in Hyderabad as well as the bronze medal in heptathlon at the National Sports Meet in Bhopal.

According to Prathvi’s diary, she was being mentally harassed by many people.

The autopsy will be conducted in Manipal Hospital on September 28 Wednesday.
