Mangaluru, June 28, 2026: Union Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways Secretary Vijay Kumar inaugurated development projects worth ₹105 crore at the New Mangalore Port Authority (NMPA) during his visit to the port on Saturday.
He reviewed the port’s operations and was briefed by NMPA Chairman Sushil Kumar Singh and Deputy Chairperson S. Shanthi on marine operations, cargo handling facilities, gate automation, infrastructure and ongoing expansion works.

During a review meeting, Vijay Kumar assessed the port’s operational efficiency, cargo traffic growth, infrastructure expansion, digital initiatives and future business plans. He directed officials to conduct a comprehensive study on the feasibility of cargo transportation through the Gurupura and Netravathi rivers and explore similar inland water transport opportunities elsewhere in Karnataka.
The projects inaugurated include the ₹7.23-crore MDL yard road network, a ₹4.45-crore truck parking facility near Tannirbhavi Road, a ₹5.43-crore truck terminal at Baikampady and a ₹5.47-crore concrete road connecting National Highway 66 with the Baikampady Industrial Area.
The Secretary also laid the foundation stone for an ₹8.65-crore warehouse and the ₹5.67-crore Panambur Beach Road beautification project.
