Nelyadi, Jun 29, 2026: Five people were injured after a car collided head-on with a tanker lorry near Barchinahalla in Gundya on the Mangaluru-Bengaluru National Highway (NH-75) on Sunday afternoon.
The injured have been identified as Sanjay (34), Lalitha (45), Monappa (56), Prema (34), and Suresh (39), all residents of Sakleshpur. They were travelling from Nelyadi towards Sakleshpur when the accident occurred as their car reached Barchinahalla. The tanker was travelling in the opposite direction from Sakleshpur towards Nelyadi.
All five occupants of the car sustained injuries and were admitted to Ashwini Hospital in Nelyadi, where they are undergoing treatment.
The accident, coupled with heavy traffic on the highway, led to severe congestion in the Gundya stretch till evening. The rush was further intensified due to a long weekend, with a large number of pilgrims travelling to the temples at Subrahmanya and Dharmasthala.
As the accident occurred in the middle of the highway, vehicular movement was disrupted, resulting in repeated traffic jams from afternoon onwards. Vehicles were lined up for several kilometres before traffic was gradually restored.
Police from the Nelyadi outpost were deployed at the spot to regulate traffic and facilitate the smooth movement of vehicles.
