Bengaluru, Jun 29, 2026: A 23-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed to death by her boyfriend after she refused to marry him following a heated argument in North Bengaluru’s Mahalakshmi Layout on Sunday night.
The accused, Rajeev (24), a resident of Laggere, was arrested shortly after the incident. He had been in a relationship with the victim, Anjali (23), a resident of Bhuvaneshwari Nagar in KP Agrahara, for the past four years. The two had met while working at a car showroom.
Although both families were aware of their relationship, Anjali’s parents opposed the marriage after learning about Rajeev’s alleged criminal background. Police said he had previously been named in robbery and attempted murder cases.
According to investigators, Rajeev had repeatedly tried to convince Anjali and her family to approve the marriage, but they refused. In recent weeks, Anjali reportedly began distancing herself from him under pressure from her parents and had stopped responding to his calls and messages.
On Sunday evening, Rajeev invited Anjali for dinner, where he again raised the topic of marriage. When she reiterated her refusal, the discussion escalated into a heated argument.
Police said Rajeev then allegedly took Anjali to an isolated stretch on Pipeline Road near KP Agrahara at around 9.30 pm, where he attacked her with a knife. As she tried to flee, he chased her and repeatedly stabbed her, including in the neck, before fleeing the scene.
Passersby found Anjali lying on the roadside and rushed her to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her brought dead. Her body was later shifted for post-mortem examination.
Mahalakshmi Layout police inspected the crime scene and, using technical evidence, tracked down and arrested the accused. Further investigation is underway.
