Pulse Polio Drive Covers Over 1.99 Lakh Children in DK, Udupi

Mangaluru, June 28, 2026: More than 1.99 lakh children below the age of five were administered polio drops in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts under the nationwide Pulse Polio Immunisation Programme on Sunday.

In Dakshina Kannada alone, 1.36 lakh children received pulse polio drops at 756 booths between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., achieving 97.2 per cent coverage against the target of 1.40 lakh children, according to an official release.

Mangaluru taluk recorded the highest turnout with 61,738 children immunised, followed by Bantwal (28,427), Puttur (19,725), Belthangady (18,080) and Sullia (8,747).

The district-level Pulse Polio programme was inaugurated at Lady Goschen Hospital in Mangaluru by MLC Ivan D’Souza, who administered polio drops to children.

Addressing the gathering, Ivan D’Souza stressed the importance of complete immunisation, urging parents to ensure that every child below five years receives the polio vaccine. “Every child is a national asset. Their health must be given utmost importance,” he said.

District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr H.R. Thimmaiah, Lady Goschen Hospital Superintendent Dr M.R. Durga Prasad, Health Department officials Dr B.V. Rajesh and Health Education Officer Jyothi Ulepaadi, along with other officials, were present.
