IMD forecasts heavy rain across Karnataka for next seven days; yellow alert for coastal districts

Bengaluru, Jun 27, 2026: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast widespread rainfall across Karnataka over the next seven days as the southwest monsoon is expected to intensify across the state.

According to the weather bulletin and advisory issued by the IMD on June 27, light to moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds is likely at several places across the state, with heavy rainfall expected in many districts. The department said the intensity of rainfall is likely to increase further in some parts of Karnataka from June 30 onwards.


IMD forecasts heavy rain across Karnataka

The coastal districts of Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, and Uttara Kannada are expected to receive continuous rainfall over the next seven days, for which the IMD has issued a Yellow Alert. Heavy rainfall is forecast between June 27 and June 30, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds.

The IMD has also predicted that the monsoon will remain active from July 1 to July 3, with heavy rainfall expected to continue across the coastal region and parts of the state.

In view of the forecast, the weather department has advised the public, especially farmers and fishermen, to remain vigilant. People have also been cautioned against taking shelter under trees or in old and dilapidated buildings during thunderstorms and lightning.
