Puttur, January 7, 2026: More than 900 arecanut saplings were destroyed after an electricity line snapped and fell onto a plantation at Boodiyaru in Kuriya village on Tuesday.
The plantation belongs to Ganesh Rai, a resident of Boodiyaru. The saplings, planted about a year ago, were reportedly growing well before the incident.
According to sources, the power line snapped suddenly on Tuesday afternoon. The fallen wire sparked a fire that spread rapidly across the plantation, completely burning the saplings. Irrigation pipes installed in the field were also fully damaged.
The total loss caused by the fire is estimated to exceed ₹5 lakh.
